When he’s not working as an engineering consultant to Metrolinx on the GO Transit electrification project, one of the largest and most complex railway upgrades in the world, you can find Stasys Fidleris producing music.

We asked Stasys a few questions to get to know him and his story:

What Gannett Fleming core value is particularly significant to you?

The firm’s support of independent growth and innovation. Our company culture promotes new ideas and encourages employees to think outside the box, a creative freedom that helps with employee retention.

Tell us about your involvement with the Future Generations of Gannett Fleming (FuGen).

FuGen is an employee resource group that seeks to amplify the voice of emerging professionals, and I’m excited to be the chair of the steering committee. I also lead the Toronto local chapter of nearly 20 employees who work together to organize community and internal networking events.

What do you see for the next generation at Gannett Fleming?

Strength in diversity. I respect Gannett Fleming’s leadership for being deliberate about diversifying our workforce and acknowledging that this shift will bring positive change, including a greater variety of ideas, thought processes, and ultimately, more complete and effective solutions.

If you could pick up a new skill or enhance a skill in an instant, what would it be?

Emotional intelligence. No single skill contributes to happiness, personal growth, and success the way that being able to identify and communicate your thoughts and emotions, and being able to read, empathize, and communicate with others, can. It’s the underlying fabric that dictates how you live your life.

What’s your favorite family tradition?

My dad’s side of the family is Lithuanian, so we celebrate Christmas with an enormous, meatless meal called Kūčios. It traditionally consists of 12 courses, but we’ve pared it down to a handful of the best ones. I look forward to it every year!
