8 Ways Gannett Fleming Promotes Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize and honor the diversity of the world around us. However, at Gannett Fleming, we see the benefits of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) in the workplace every day. We keep DEI&B top-of-mind throughout the year because we believe a workplace built upon these principles makes us stronger, smarter, and more creative.
Read on to discover a few of the ways we champion DEI&B at Gannett Fleming.
1. DE&I Steering Committee and Employee Resource Groups
Our DE&I Steering Committee and employee resource groups (ERGs) support underrepresented groups and help them connect to the larger organization and feel a sense of belonging. Currently, Gannett Fleming has four ERGs:
2. Two Weeks of Paid Parental Leave
We’re dedicated to supporting employees who become parents through birth (including surrogate birth), adoption, or foster care placement of a child through our paid parental leave policy. As part of this dedication, Gannett Fleming provides U.S. employees with two weeks of paid parental leave to full-time employees. Eligible part-time employees can also take paid parental leave at a prorated amount.
Gannett Fleming offers a wide array of family-friendly benefits. Learn more in our blog.
3. Flextime and Hybrid Work Models
One of our employees’ favorite benefits is our flextime policy. Under this policy and in partnership with supervisor approval, employees have a choice in establishing a regular work schedule and the ability to deviate from this regular schedule to help balance life and work priorities.
Additionally, we offer hybrid work models so employees can have meaningful, collaborative time in the office while enjoying the flexibility of working from home or another remote location.
4. Employee Engagement and Community Program
Our Employee Engagement and Community Program (EECP) encourages employee engagement and reflects our core values of community involvement and social responsibility as well as our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitment. The EECP supports participation in charitable events or fundraisers aligned to a charity or community event championed by employees.
We empower our employees to recommend sponsorship and participation opportunities in charitable events and fundraisers, including those focused on DEI&B, to impact their local communities positively.
5. Two Floating Holidays Annually
In addition to established paid federal holidays and paid time off, Gannett Fleming offers every employee two floating holidays annually. In short, floating holidays are extra paid time off, and employees can use their floating holidays at their discretion. Some common uses are for special events, birthdays, and religious or cultural holidays not already included as paid holidays.
6. Recruiting Diverse Talent
We intentionally recruit diverse talent to continue to grow Gannett Fleming as an equitable and inclusive firm. From attending career fairs at historically black colleges and universities to posting jobs on military veteran job boards and rewarding employees with bonuses through our referral program, we strive to build diverse teams. Why? So that we are representative of the communities we serve and continue to deliver excellence and innovation to our clients.
7. Connected Relationships Mentoring Program™
Our Connected Relationships Mentoring Program™, led by our Connected Women ERG, seeks to utilize senior employees’ existing knowledge, skills, and experience and pair them with junior or less experienced employees at Gannett Fleming. We designed the program to allow senior staff the opportunity to help junior and mid-career staff advance on their professional journey.
8. DEI&B Training & Thought Leadership
As part of our commitment to DEI&B, we encourage our internal thought leaders to lend their voices to the sometimes difficult but critical conversations associated with trending DEI&B topics. These topics range from marginalization in the workplace and allyship to the importance of workplace wellness benefits for all and combating productivity anxiety.
Additionally, we provide mandatory unconscious bias training for all employees, and our project principal boot camp and project management academy include a DEI&B curriculum.
Our thought leaders proudly lend their voices to trending DEI&B topics. Masai Lawson, senior manager of talent acquisition and inclusion, has authored blogs, been featured on podcasts, serves on multiple committees, and participates in panel discussions and presentations related to DEI&B.
