Region of Peel Airport Road Widening

Our Client’s Challenge

Airport Road is a major urban transportation corridor named after its proximity and connection to Toronto Pearson International Airport at its southern limits. Also designated as Peel Regional Road 7, it provides an important route for commuters and other residential areas in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga in the Greater Toronto Area.

The road passes through industrial, commercial, and residential areas, providing connections to shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, and other amenities. Airport Road must be widened from four to six lanes to accommodate current and future traffic demand caused by continued growth in the Region of Peel and the city of Brampton.

Our Solution

The Region of Peel has retained Gannett Fleming to provide detailed design, contract preparation, and construction administration services for a road bridge rehabilitation project that widens Airport Road from Braydon Boulevard to Countryside Drive in the city of Brampton. The corridor features a melting pot of stakeholders, including:

Our team will also work diligently to maintain access to all residential, commercial, and other amenities through the corridor during project construction.

Our design includes a low-impact development (LID) plan to meet stringent regional and regulatory requirements for predevelopment hydrology management practices within a developed roadway corridor. These LID practices include linear and centralized facilities, including bioswales, infiltration trenches, and enhanced grass swales in the existing drainage network.
