In addition to earning seven ACEC national and state-level awards earlier this year, Gannett Fleming is proud to announce 13 additional transportation accolades.

ENR Southwest: Award of Merit, Excellence in Safety

The $92.3 million renovation project features new track and overhead catenary lines, an additional traction power substation, and track, rail systems, and expansion of multiple operational facilities. The project used building information modeling (BIM) and streamlined construction, along with carefully established staging, to result in uninterrupted, around-the-clock facility operations.

ASCE Illinois: Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement ($25 million – $100 million)
RT&S: Top Project (Class 1: New Construction – Bridges)

Averaging over 140 trains and 195,000 vehicles per day, this project replaced the three-track BNSF bridge that spans over the eight-lane Tri-State Tollway (I-294). Our team successfully minimized impacts to rail and highway traffic, as well as to neighboring parks.

ASCE Illinois: Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement ($10 million – $25 million)

Reconstruction of the Irving Park Road Bridge was a challenging urban project involving multiple stakeholders. The new bridge features a multi-use pedestrian and bicycle path, connecting California Park with Horner Park, and providing an off-street trail with scenic Chicago River views.

ABCD Southwest & Central Ohio: Project of the Year (Short Span Bridge)

This vital project replaced two CSX and Norfolk Southern bridges that pass over Lazelle Road, a difficult-to-access site that challenged designers more than a typical railroad bridge replacement project. An innovative, multi-phased construction process ensured traffic and freight continued moving smoothly.

ENR Mid-Atlantic: Best Project Excellence in Safety

The Pittsburgh Regional Transit light rail vehicle maintenance facility rehabilitation updated a 40-year-old building to modern design and operational standards. The project, completed in just 17 months, improves rail car maintenance functionality, safety, and mobility.

CMAA Central Pennsylvania: Construction Management Project Achievement Award

The new $24.5 million station connects travelers between Harrisburg and Philadelphia on the 104-mile, double-track electrified Keystone Corridor line. Featuring an accessible platform and overpass, the new station is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and serves as an anchor for future area redevelopment.

Mid-Atlantic Section of ITE: Project of the Year

Among the first-of-its-kind in the City of Philadelphia, the Modern Urban Roundabout transformed the connection between Frankford Ave., Trenton Ave., and York Street. The junction, originally a six-legged signalized intersection with low visibility, is now a safe, efficient, and pedestrian-friendly roundabout.

ASCE Virginia, Bull Run Branch: Centennial Celebration Award

With a total value of $3.6 billion, the Interstate 66 (I-66) project is the largest public-private partnership project underway in the United States. Transforming this vital corridor outside of Washington D.C.’s Capital Beltway (I-495) expands multimodal transportation options, creates more reliable and faster trips with dynamically tolled express lanes, and enhances safety and reduces congestion for all travelers.
