Warren A. “Art” Barrett II, PE, Gannett Fleming senior vice president based in Maryland, has assumed the role of 2022-2023 chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). ACEC represents thousands of companies and serves as the voice of the AEC industry across the nation.

“After two years of managing the effects of COVID-19 on ACEC and our industry, ACEC’s talented and dedicated teams at the state and national level continue to do great work in providing a connected and unified message for all,” said Barrett. “The commitment of our member firms and volunteer leaders to stay true to our mission and values never wavered. During my tenure as chair, I see a few key areas in our business practice ─ including advancing advocacy, supporting our state and regional organizations, increasing communications, and diversifying membership ─ that are vital to the relevancy and growth of our organization. ACEC is the voice of nearly 6,000 individual engineering firms employing almost 600,000 individuals. Over the next year, I’m looking for ACEC to positively impact those firms to build a brighter, stronger future for the engineering industry.”

Barrett served as a chair-elect of ACEC from 2021 to 2022 and serves on the Planning Cabinet, the Transportation Committee, and the Federal Agency and Procurement Advocacy (FAPA) Committee. He has served on the ACEC Maryland Executive Board as chair and national director, as well as the ACEC/MD Political Action Committee Champion.

Barrett, an AEC industry thought leader, holds a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Clarkson University and is a registered professional engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.
