Barrett Honored with ASCE Maryland Meritorious Service Award
Warren A. “Art” Barrett II, PE, Gannett Fleming senior vice president, has been awarded the 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Maryland Section’s Meritorious Service to Civil Engineering Profession Award. Barrett was honored at the ASCE Maryland Section awards dinner at The Mansion House at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Maryland Section of ASCE presents the award annually to an outstanding registered professional engineer whose sustained service contributions have been to the public welfare, the advancement of the engineering industry in Maryland, and service to society throughout their professional engineering career.
In a LinkedIn post acknowledging the award, Barrett stated, “Thank you to ASCE/MD for recognizing me with the Meritorious Service Award for 2023. I would like to encourage all engineers to stay engaged in ASCE and professional organizations, ensuring that our profession continues to thrive and get respect from our peers and the public for the essential value we bring to society.”
A long-time member and supporter of the ASCE Maryland Section, Barrett served as section president in 2004. He was awarded the ASCE Maryland Civil Engineer of the Year in 2015. His additional industry leadership roles in Maryland have included serving on the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Maryland Executive Board as chair, board member, director, political action committee champion, and president of the Engineering Society of Baltimore. He was also the 2022-2023 national chair of ACEC and serves on the Planning Cabinet, the Transportation Committee, and the Federal Agency and Procurement Advocacy Committee.
Barrett, an AEC industry thought leader, holds a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Clarkson University.
